This notice sets out who stands behind Sotoportego, which company keeps it online, on what terms its words and pictures can be reused, and what data a visit leaves behind.
Publisher
Publisher: Sotoportego, an independent publication. Its editors choose the subjects, do the research, write every article and sign them collectively with the name of the publication.

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA.
Independence
We have no tie to the Jewish Community of Venice, to the Jewish Museum, to Ca' Foscari or any other university, to Beit Venezia, to the publishers whose books we cite, or to the project that once ran a website on this domain (see About this domain). No advertiser, sponsor or affiliate programme pays for anything here, and we neither organise events nor sell tickets.
Reusing our texts and images
- Each article was written for Sotoportego. Brief quotations from books, articles and documents are marked as such and attributed to their authors. If you want to share our work, a link is welcome; please do not copy whole articles.
- The pictures come from Wikimedia Commons and are either free of copyright or released by their makers under Creative Commons licences. The author and licence appear in each caption and again on the photo credits page.
- The names of museums, communities, associations, books and artworks that appear in our pages are mentioned for information and remain the property of their owners.
Practical details may change
When we mention opening hours, prices or how to visit a synagogue, museum or cemetery, we report what the institution or the press said at the time of writing. These details change often: confirm them with the institution before you travel.
Privacy
No cookie is placed on your device, and the site runs no analytics, no advertising code and no social-network buttons. Fonts are stored on our own server rather than loaded from a third party. The only data processed is the technical information, such as IP addresses, that Cloudflare records in its server logs to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.

Requests about corrections, image rights, or the updating or removal of a page are dealt with by the editors of Sotoportego.
